Abstract
Cells with numerous systems of molecular members consist and maintain the life of living organisms by complex interactions. Integrated analysis of diverse molecular network is, thus, necessary to understand the underlying biological principles of organisms. The accelerating speed of accumulation of new biological knowledge from experimental research and the limitations of current research methods demand the implementation of computational approaches leading to the development of the discipline of systems biology. Virtual cell is the simulated environment of a cell from experimental knowledge of constituting molecules and provides functions of virtual experiments and analysis. Though numerous virtual cell systems have been established, these still poses some limitations including the difficulty of communication and integration between systems and complicated user interfaces from direct encoding through computer programming languages. In this report, current trends and limitations of virtual cell research was reviewed hoping to assist the readers of interest.
